The main purpose of using a GUID Partition Table (GPT) is to support large capacity drives and more partitions. GPT is a modern partitioning scheme that addresses the limitations of the older Master Boot Record (MBR) system. One of its key advantages is that it allows for the use of disks larger than 2 TB, which is the maximum size supported by MBR. Additionally, GPT supports a much greater number of partitions—up to 128 primary partitions on Windows systems, compared to the maximum of 4 primary partitions available with MBR.
